• Game Theory
For games with single, dominant startegies, game theory provides a method for maximizing utility, and is therefor as good as one could hope for. To the extent that one accepts the assumptions of games for which mixed strategies can be derived, the same is true for them. In the case of games which require yet more assumptions, I think game theory provides only a useful framework of analysis, not firm conclusions regarding "the right thing to do".
Are you talking about "game theory", as in Von Neumann, Nash, Morgenstern, etc.? Perhaps you mean something else, such as game tree search?
