• In Memory of Eric Dybsand
Steven Woodcock has emailed in a public annoucement with some very sad news about one of our most respected peers in the game AI industry. It is with great sadness that I announce that Eric Dybsand, known as "Geta" on these forums and one of the true pioneers in the field of Game AI, passed away on April 15, 2004. He was at work in the game development studio '2015 Inc.', located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. [...] Eric was a very good friend and simply one of the brightest minds I have ever met. I think he truly had no idea how many people he inspired and influenced with his thoughts, his easy-going personality, and his sheer pleasure at talking about Game AI. There's a memorial service planned in Collorado, as well as an online memorial. See Steve's full announcement right here. I only met Eric Dybsand in person at last year's GDC. It was always a pleasure to find him in the speaker's room, where he would innevitably be having a discussion about AI. I subsequently had the pleasure of working with Eric on my book during the technical review; he was always willing to share his wisdom and discuss my ideas. I shall remember Eric as a very friendly person, always willing to help, and with an incredible talent for his job. He will be missed. |
