Writing Contest
Eight Entries This Winter

• Writing Contest

There were 8 (yes, EIGHT ;) entries to the winter contest, with a nice cluster of topics. The deadline was on the 30th January, as advertised -- and didn't need delaying. The preliminaries and voting are over, and the contestants are now in the peer review phase. This was introduced for this contest to offer everyone feedback on their article from other contestants.

Here were the accepted submissions, in the order they arrived:

  • Economics and Artificial Intelligence (by James Kingsbery)
  • Evolutionary Neural Networks: Design methodologies (by Rinku Dewri)
  • Solving Integer Programming Problems Using Genetic Algorithms (by Fabricio Olivetti de Franca)
  • Natural Language Semantics (by Max Dennis Luesebrink)
  • Emotional Machines (by Nitin Mendiratta)
  • Solving Travelling Salesman Problems Using Genetic Algorithms (by Eric Martel)
  • The Random Test (by Marco van de Wijdeven)
  • Paradigmatic Considerations for an AI Interface for a Wearable Computer (by Carol Stein)

I'm hoping to get these articles up before I go to the GDC, but things are going to be quite hectic (more so) from now on... I'll update the news as I can, but feel free to chat in the Message Store in the mean time.

The next contest will no doubt have a deadline mid-April, so base your submissions on that. Prizes are being negotiated, so another AI book seems very likely!
